Ategi is proud to announce that our Supported Living Scheme Manager, Gail has been chosen as a finalist for the Frontline Leader Award at the upcoming Care Awards.

Ategi is proud to announce that our Supported Living Scheme Manager, Gail has been chosen as a finalist for the Frontline Leader Award at the upcoming Care Awards. Gail's journey from a support worker in 1999 to her current role as Supported Living Manager shows her dedication to the field of supported living.

Gail's story began when she was working a Saturday job at a local hairdresser, where an Ategi manager happened to be a customer. Recognising Gail's potential, the Ategi Manager invited her to apply for a Support Worker role at Ategi. She felt very committed to her role at Peter's Pies, so when she was offered a part-time position as a Support Worker with Ategi she continued to work at Peter’s Pies. For two years, she juggled both roles until she eventually chose to devote her time to Ategi.

Throughout her journey, Gail had the privilege of working with a strong team that served as role models, instilling in her the values and self-belief that she now brings into her everyday life. As she helped manage various aspects of the organisation, Gail's dedication became increasingly evident. When the opportunity arose for a Manager position, she seized it and proved herself deserving.

Even now as a Manager, Gail's motivation within her role lies in the tangible impact on people's lives through supported living. She is passionate about providing individuals with the independence they deserve and ensuring they are recognised as unique individuals with person-centred care.

Gail's team of Support Workers provide each service user with an individually tailored support plan. To ensure that our service users gain the highest quality of support that they deserve she ensures that the well-being of her team is at the heart of everything she does. Providing a positive work culture is at the forefront of Gail’s leadership approach. Gail consistently leads by example, treating everyone equitably whilst embracing the diverse skills each team member brings.

Her experiences have shaped her leadership approach, making her a hands-on, results-driven Manager who never hesitates to admit and learn from mistakes. She's known for putting herself in others' shoes and providing an authentic and empathetic leadership style for her team and the people we support. Gail firmly believes that certain qualities are essential for success. These include honesty, trustworthiness, flexibility, reliability, a positive demeanour, a sense of humour, active listening, and an unyielding commitment to learning and improvement.

As a finalist for the Frontline Leader Award, Gail's message to those aspiring to excel in leadership roles within the care sector is resounding: Be authentic, be honest, and never hesitate to seek help when needed. Her journey serves as a testament to her dedication, compassion, and genuine commitment to the progress of Ategi's supported living schemes.
