Why I Left Finance for Social Care

By Analees, Support Worker at Ategi

"For years, I worked in finance.

I was a risk analyst in banks. I worked in accounting firms. I sat at a desk, looking at a screen, analysing data. It paid the bills. But something was missing."

“You’re just a number,” I realised. And I didn’t want to feel like that anymore."

A Different Kind of Challenge

"I have a psychology degree, and alongside my finance career I did some weekend care work for extra income. I never expected to enjoy it. But I did."

"Helping someone. Seeing the difference you make in their day. Knowing they were looking forward to your visit — that gave me something I’d never felt sitting behind a screen."

"So, I made a decision to move into social care."

Why Ategi?

"At Ategi, you’re not rushing between calls.

Job Satisfaction That Matters

One of the individuals I support hadn’t left the house for years before starting with Ategi. Now she’s going shopping. Trying new activities. Setting goals. She might not see her progress — but I do."

"And knowing that I’ve played a small part in that? That’s job satisfaction."

"In finance, I was analysing risk. Now, I’m helping people rebuild their confidence and independence.

And I wouldn’t go back."
