Ategi’s “Let’s Get Together” event brings people together

Last week, Ategi hosted an unforgettable event called Let’s Get Together, designed to bring connection and fun to adults with additional needs in the Ategi community and beyond. The day was filled with laughter, music, games, and meaningful interactions, creating a vibrant atmosphere that left everyone smiling.

The event featured something for everyone, ensuring there was no shortage of entertainment or opportunities to connect. Multisport joined us to showcase two exciting sports—Golf and Boccia—giving attendees a chance to try their hand at these engaging activities. Meanwhile, the Silent Disco proved to be a massive hit, with participants eagerly submitting song requests and dancing away in their own unique style. Many shared that it was their first time experiencing a silent disco, but they absolutely loved it!

Adding to the musical vibe of the day, 2 Rhythms led a lively and interactive musical session that had everyone tapping their feet and joining in. Gig Buddies also made an appearance, delivering an insightful talk about their work and inspiring conversations about how music can bring people together.

One of the highlights of the event was the Wheel of Fortune—a creative twist on a classic game. Not only did it offer participants the chance to win prizes, but it cleverly incorporated questions about the types of activities they enjoy most. It quickly became one of the crowd favorites, with many saying it was one of their favorite parts of the day. Similarly, bingo cards were handed out, allowing attendees to share which activities resonated with them the most.

But Let’s Get Together wasn’t just about having fun—it was also an opportunity to listen and learn. By incorporating feedback mechanisms like the Wheel of Fortune and bingo cards, Ategi aimed to gather valuable insights into the kinds of activities the people we support would love to see more of in the future. This input will play a crucial role as we plan even bigger events down the line.

The event wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of Cai and Elizabeth, two students who joined Ategi's team team specifically to help design and organise the event. Their dedication ensured everything ran smoothly while keeping the focus firmly on creating an inclusive, enjoyable experience for all.

Attendees included individuals from across Ategi’s services, along with their families and friends, as well as people supported by Innovate Trust and other organisations. Our Support Circles were also present, sharing the incredible impact of their group and encouraging others to get involved. The sense of connection and belonging was palpable throughout the day, fulfilling our mission of bringing people together and fostering relationships.

As the event drew to a close, one thing was clear: Let’s Get Together achieved its goal of providing fun, building connections, and empowering the people we support to shape the kinds of activities they’d like to see more of. The lessons learned from this event will guide us as we continue to create spaces where everyone feels valued, heard, and inspired.

Stay tuned for updates on our next big event—we’re already dreaming up ways to make it even better!

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making Let’s Get Together such a success. We can’t wait to do it all again soon!

The Comms team had a little help taking photos at the event. Raj, who volunteers with us through Support Circles, took on the paid role of freelance photographer for us at the event! We're keen to make more opportunities for people we support so if you're interested in taking photos for us, get in touch!
