A Scorching Summer Event!
A Celebration of Connection, Confidence and Community
Sunshine, smiles and shared experiences made this year's Ategi Summer Event one to remember, as people from across our Shared Lives and Support Circles communities came together for a wonderful day at Amelia Trust Farm.
Set against the beautiful surroundings of the Vale of Glamorgan, the day offered something for everyone. From meeting the farm's friendly animals and enjoying the fresh air, to taking part in fun, inclusive activities led by Multisport Health and Wellbeing, there was laughter, conversation and plenty of opportunities to make new memories.
But while the sunshine certainly helped, what made the day so special was something far more meaningful.
Belonging is built through people
At Ategi, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to feel connected, valued and part of their community.
Our Summer Event brought together people supported through Shared Lives and Support Circles, alongside carers, families, colleagues and volunteers. It was a chance to reconnect with familiar faces, welcome new ones and enjoy the simple pleasure of spending time together.
For many of the people we support, opportunities like these play an important role in building confidence, reducing isolation and strengthening relationships.
James, who is supported through Ategi's Shared Lives service, summed it up perfectly:
"I love coming to events like this because you get to see people you haven't seen for a while and meet new friends too. The animals were brilliant and everyone was smiling. It's been a really good day."
Raj, who takes part in Ategi's Support Circles, shared a similar feeling:
"It's nice to get out, try different activities and spend time with people. Everyone has been welcoming and I've had a lot of fun today."
Their words remind us that belonging isn't something we can simply provide. It grows through shared experiences, genuine relationships and feeling part of something bigger than ourselves.
More than support
Social care is often measured by the support people receive.
At Ategi, we believe it should also be measured by the opportunities people have to live rich, connected and fulfilling lives.
Whether that's trying a new activity, building lasting friendships, discovering new interests or simply enjoying a day out together, these experiences help people develop confidence, independence and a stronger sense of belonging.
Every conversation, every shared laugh and every new friendship contributes to something much bigger than a single event.
A day to remember
Ategi Chief Executive Kate Allen reflected on what the day represented:
"Seeing people laughing, making new friends and enjoying new experiences together is what makes days like this so special. These moments help build confidence, strengthen connections and remind us all of the importance of belonging. They also reflect what Ategi is here to do every day – supporting people to live their lives, their way."
The event was made possible thanks to the warm welcome from everyone at Amelia Trust Farm and the fantastic activities delivered by Multisport Health and Wellbeing.
We would also like to thank our Shared Lives carers, Support Circles participants, colleagues and volunteers whose enthusiasm and generosity helped make the day such a success.
Looking beyond the day
While our Summer Event lasts just one day each year, its impact reaches much further.
The friendships strengthened, confidence built and memories created continue long after everyone has gone home. They reflect something at the heart of Ategi's work: creating opportunities for people not only to receive support, but to connect, contribute and thrive within their communities.
Because belonging isn't a destination.
It's something we create together.
