What is the Carer Referral Scheme?
Our Carer Referral Scheme is a simple way to help us grow our community of Shared Lives carers in Cardiff, Buckinghamshire, Southwark, Slough, Central Bedfordshire & South Gloucestershire.
If you refer someone to Ategi who:
- Applies to become a Shared Lives carer
- Completes the assessment and approval process
- Goes on to provide Shared Lives support
…you’ll receive £250 once they are approved and £250 once they begin supporting someone.
This scheme helps us reach people who may never have heard of Shared Lives, often the very people who are perfectly suited to the role.
Who makes a good Shared Lives carer?
There’s no ‘typical’ Shared Lives carer.

- Kind, patient and reliable
- Good listeners and a good sense of humour
- Comfortable sharing their home and daily life
- Able to offer emotional warmth as well as practical support
Ategi provides full training, guidance, and ongoing support.
