'What we believe'...
ategi believes that individuals should be at the centre of their lives, shaping the support they need; to live the life they choose.
When we asked people what they wanted ategi to do, they said they wanted support to :
- Develop friendships and relationships.
- Be treated as individuals, with the same rights as others.
- Be more independent.
- Make decisions and have more of a say in their lives.
- Be part of their community, enjoying the same opportunities as others.
As well as listening to what service users want, ategi’s work is guided by the following Service Principles developed by John O’Brien; these are -Community Presence; Relationships; Competence; Choice and Control; Status and Respect.
ategi remains committed to the original principles of the ‘All Wales Strategy’ (1983) and the more recent Welsh Assembly Government ‘Statement on Policy and Practice for adults with a learning disability’ (2007). Our work in England is also guided by the three year government strategy ‘Valuing People Now’ (2009).
